Bitcoin Depot reports unauthorized transfer of about 50.9 bitcoin from company wallets
Compiled 2026-09-27 from public records. By the cisonews.net Desk.
Bitcoin Depot, an operator of bitcoin ATMs, disclosed on April 8, 2026 that an unauthorized party had taken control of credentials for its digital asset settlement accounts and moved bitcoin out of company wallets. The company discovered the access on March 23 and determined the incident material on April 6.
The loss
Bitcoin Depot recorded a preliminary loss estimate equal to the fair value of the bitcoin on the incident date. It said the intrusion was limited to its corporate environment and did not reach customer platforms, and that it had found no evidence of customer personal information being taken.
Materiality
As with several 2026 filers in this log, the materiality call turned on consequences rather than size. The company did not expect a material effect on its financial condition and noted insurance might cover some losses.
Not stated
The filing does not say how the credentials were obtained or whether any of the bitcoin had been traced or recovered.
