Bassett Furniture stops manufacturing after encryption of data files
Compiled 2026-09-27 from public records. By the cisonews.net Desk.
Bassett Furniture Industries, a Virginia furniture maker and retailer, disclosed on July 15, 2024 that an intruder detected on July 10 had encrypted some data files, and that its manufacturing plants were not running as a result of containment steps. Retail stores and the website stayed open.
Original filing
The operational effect was stated directly. Bassett said it did not believe consumer personal information had been compromised, and described the business impact as material while recovery was under way.
August 2024 amendment
The 8-K/A said the threat actor was removed the same day it was detected. Stores, the e-commerce site, plants and distribution centres were operating again, and delayed wholesale orders had been caught up. Bassett concluded the effects were not material to its finances for the fiscal year and planned to file insurance claims.
Open
Bassett did not disclose how long the plants were idle or the cost of recovery.
